Wing in the New Year

by Heidi

Eyeliner
When I think New Year’s Eve, I must have black eyeliner. Why? It just screams ‘party’ and besides, when else can I wear tons of it without an excuse? From classic to modern, here’s a few looks I’ve put together to ‘wing in’ the New Year.

Our DHC Eyeliner Perfect Pro EX is a lovely rich black eyeliner that gives you the precision you need for tight-lining accuracy and bold coverage for the thick black looks. It also stays put all night long so feel free to laugh, cry and dance your butt off without a worry! Below are my favorite liner looks and a few tips on how to apply.

DHC Liquid Eyeliner Ex

The Classic Cat

Who’s wearing it: Angelina Jolie
How to apply: Starting at the center of the eye at the lash line, trace outwards and flick the liner up slightly at the outer corner. Use your lower lash line as a guide for the correct angle – as if you were drawing an extended lower lash line. Go back and lightly line the inner half of your top lash line and thicken the outer flick.

The Dramatic Cat

Who’s wearing it: Adele
How to apply: Starting at the center of the eye at the lash line, trace outwards and flick the liner up about a half inch or more at the outer corner. Use your lower lash line as a guide for the correct angle – as if you were drawing an extended lower lash line. Go back and line the inner half of your top lash line and thicken the outer half of your lash line plus the flick for serious drama.

Thick Mod

Who’s wearing it: Françoise Hardy
How to apply: Starting at the center of the eye at the lash line, trace outwards and flick the liner up about a quarter inch at the outer corner. Use your lower lash line as a guide for the correct angle – as if you were drawing an extended lower lash line. Go back and line the inner half of your top lash line and thicken up the liner from the flick and taper it across your lid to the inner corner.

Double Winged

Who’s wearing it: Kim Kardashian
How to apply: Starting at the center of the eye at the lash line, trace outwards and flick the liner up about a half inch or more at the outer corner. Use your lower lash line as a guide for the correct angle – as if you were drawing an extended lower lash line. Go back and line the inner half of your top lash line and thicken the outer half of your lash line plus the flick for serious drama. On your lower lash line, create another thin wing at the outer corner of your eye to mimic a thick lower lash.

Runway Chic

Who’s wearing it: Models on the runway
How to apply: This look is much more advanced than the others only because it requires spacing the eyeliner from your lower lash line. The ‘disconnected’ liner is spaced about a quarter of an inch from the lash line and is typically lightly flicked at the outer corner. How to do it? Cheat! Like Twiggy did in the past, use a white or flesh-toned pencil liner on your lash line and trace the black liner just above the pencil. It may take a few tries to get it right but once you do, it’s a stunner.

Once the party’s over don’t forget to have some DHC Deep Cleansing Oil on hand to rinse away all that heavy liner, stat!

Love your makeup tips/instructuons – you’ve covered the whole face! I’ve always loved makeup & learning new things 2 try 2 keep it as exciting as it was when I got my first tutorial from Estee Lauder in 8th grade courtesy of my grandmother :) Thanks 2 u, I’ve gotton much better at the smokey eye & where 2 use highlighter. But I’m still stumped on any kind of cat eye. Any suggestions on what I’m doing wrong? Is it possible 2 just have the wrong eye shape 2 make this work? Thanks from another Heidi!
