Read more »If you’re like 39 million Americans, on Sunday you watched the grand homme of all awards shows, the Oscars. Few television events take my breath away like the promenade of celebrities and celeb hangers-on that is the Academy Awards because this one event is the culmination of a brief but intense season of red carpet gown-spotting. While others may wait with bated breath for the winner of various “dramatic” categories, I perch on the edge of my sofa when I see the limos doors open. My husband will roll his eyes at this behavior, but the fact is, I still get intoxicated by the fantasy and glamour that cinema creates, and Oscars night is the epitome of all that is fabulous about the movies.

Read more »I’ve heard that eyes show the first signs of age, but personally, I look at the hands. Especially that little area between the top knuckle and the cuticle that you never thought would be a wrinkle zone until it was too late. Lately, I’ve become obsessed with my hands because they’re in front of me all day long, typing away as I work, and I get to know the map of them so well that I swear I could detect when a new line or freckle appears. Personally, I’ve given up making them. Declarations of any kind made on January 1 or calling anything a “resolution” seems to add so much pressure to those noble acts of self-improvement we seem to have trouble doing already. So rather than putting these acts on the pedestal of insurmountable obstacles, I’m taking the more casual approach by nonchalantly working easily-achievable tasks into my everyday routine. It works for me. I’m task-oriented. I call them, simply, my To-Dos (that I happen to make on the first of the year).
