So THIS is what winter feels like. A Californian complaining about the cold probably won’t inspire a whole lot of sympathy from about 47 other states, but this unusually long and consistent cold streak we’re having is not only uncomfortable, it’s causing an all-out beauty crisis. Evidence:

As I enjoyed my lovely, lazy Sunday yesterday, with its warm, embraceable sunshine and cool breeze reminding me that it was not quite spring, I remembered the Great Tohoku Earthquake of March 11, 2011. An omnipresent media broadcast unforgettable images of the quake’s devastation, as well as that of the ensuing tsunami, both of which changed the landscape of Japan, probably forever.
